2009 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Round 2

Fort Worth – Steve Stricker set a tournament record 36-hole score at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. With a two-day score of 14-under 126, Stricker leads the tournament after hitting 63 two days in a row. One shot back is Tim Clark, last year’s runner-up, with a two-day score of 127 (-13).

Strickler, who played late Thursday and had an early tee time Friday, took the day in stride, “Luckily I birdied the first hole and got off to a good start. I just plodded along.  I take one hole at a time.  I’ve learned that along the length of my career, and you just try not to get ahead of myself and all of those things. So I just tried to wake up, you know, and get loosened up and go on.   I start swinging a little more aggressively as the round went on, but I really didn’t have, you know, a mindset of going and shooting another 7-under round. I just let it happen.”

Vijay Singh is third with a score of 128, after shooting a pair of 6-under 64’s. “I played well.  I hit the ball a lot better than I did yesterday, but I scored well yesterday, so I’m really happy with the way I’m swinging the club. I’ve got a lot more confidence with my driver today and it’s sharp in the fairways.  I’m just looking forward to another day tomorrow.”

7 of the top 10 players in the FedExCup standings are in the field this week.
