2009 French Open Day 7

Only one upset in the men’s 3rd round today as number 4 seed Novak Djokovic lost in straight sets to no. 29 Philipp Kohlschreiber.  Djokovic, who had reached the semifinals at Roland-Garros each of the last two years, made 38 unforced errors in the match.  “What is disappointing”, said Djokovic, “was that I couldn’t find the rhythm throughout the whole match.”

American Andy Roddick made it to the 4th round for the first time in his career by beating Frenchman Marc Gicquel in straight sets.

Also winning today were number 2 seed Roger Federer, no. 5 Juan Martin Del Potro, and no. 9 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

There were two upsets on the women’s side today as number 4 seed Elena Demetieva lost to no. 30 Samantha Stosur and no. 10 seed Caroline Wosniacki lost to unseeded Sorana Cirstea.

Among the women’s winners were number 2 Serena Williams, no. 5 Jelena Jankovic, no. 7 Svetlana Kuznetsova, and no. 9 Victoria Azarenka.
