2009 HP Byron Nelson Championship Round 3

Irving, TX – Rory Sabbatini maintained his share of the lead at the HP Byron Nelson Championship through the 3rd day. Sabbatini shot a 5-under par 65 to give him a cumulative 13-under 197.   Tied with Sabbatini is John Mallinger who was grouped with Sabbatini.  Also grouped with them was Brian Davis who shot 66 and is two strokes back with 199.  Sabbatini talked about the grouping, “It was fun today because it’s always nice when all three guys play well. It keeps the atmosphere lighter, more relaxed, and Brian, John, and myself, we had a good time.  Obviously, it’s a lot easier to enjoy yourself when you’re playing good golf.  It was definitely a fun group to be in today.”

Mallinger took note of the home field advantage given to Sabbatini, “Rory is a hometown guy. There’s a lot of guys rooting for him. But I’ve got some buddies who can get pretty loud out there. It should be fun.  I know he’s going to play hard, I’m going to play as hard as I can, and whoever comes out is the best player for the week.”

Sabbatini sported a pink ribbon on his had to acknowledge Phil Mickelson’s wife Amy, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this week.. Sabbatini stated “Obviously everyone hopes for a healthy and speedy recovery for Amy Mickelson.  I know everyone’s thoughts and prayers are with them.”
