2009 US Open Day 10

Caroline Wozniacki ended the Cinderella run of American Melanie Oudin in the quarterfinal round.  Oudin, the 17 year old who captured the attention of a nation, finally appeared to feel the pressure. Oudin made 43 errors on the night as she was never really in the match.  Wozniacki, at the grand old age of 19, will be playing in her first Grand Slam semi-final.  Her opponent will be Yanina Wickmayer, who ousted Kateryna Bondarenko in straight sets. It is also Wickmayers first foray into a semifinal round at a major.

In the men’s matches, Roger Federer advanced to his 22nd consecutive Grand Slam semifinal. Federer beat #12 Robin Soderling in 4 sets.  #4 Novak Djokovic also took 4 sets to win over #10 Fernando Verdasco to advance to the semis.

The #1 Doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan lost a tiebreak against the #4 team of Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes in the semifinals.  The Williams sisters advanced to the women’s doubles semifinal round.
