2009 US Open Day 7
|Once again the women’s draw has the best action, with two heart-stopping matches on the day.
#10 Flavia Pennetta survived 6 match points in the 2nd set against Vera Zvonareva. Pennetta then goes on to win the 3rd set 6-0 after a complete meltdown from Zvonareva.
Wildcard Kim Clijsters, who is on the comeback trail after returning from retirement, knocked out #3 seed Venus Williams to advance to the quarterfinals. Clijsters won the first set 6-0 only to have Williams turn the tables and win the second set 6-0. All the drama was in the third set, finally won by Clijsters 6-4.
In other matches, #2 Serena Williams had little trouble winning over #22 Daniela Hantuchova, and #18 Na Li easily won against #26 Francesca Schiavone.
