2009 US Open Day 8

John Isner, the last American man standing at the US Open, finally fell.  For the 1st time ever, there will not be an American in the quarterfinals of the national Grand Slam.  Isner fell in 4 sets to #10 Fernando Verdasco.

Elsewhere, #1 Roger Federer and #4 Novak Djokovic both advanced easily to the quarterfinals. #8 Nikolay Davydenko was upset by #12 Robin Soderling.

For the women, Kateryna Bondarenko continued her remarkable run with a shutout win over Gisela Dulko.

The shocking Melanie Oudin came from a set down to win over #13 Nadia Petrova, Yanina Wickmayer won in 3 sets over Petra Kvitova, and #9 Caroline Wosniacki came from behind to win over #6 Svetlana Kuznetsova.
