2010 French Open Day 7

Today was the day for upsets on the men’s side of the draw, most notably was No. 6 Andy Roddick losing to qualifier Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia.  Roddick never got into the game and lost his composure after being broken in the 7th game of the first set, “I wasn’t on top of anything today,” said Roddick.

Roddick wasn’t the only surprise loser today as No. 9 David Ferrer was upset by No. 22 Jurgen Melzer, No. 16 Juan Carlos Ferrero lost to unseeded American Robby Ginepri, and no. 14 Ivan Ljubicic was beaten by No. 24 Thomaz Bellucci.

On the women’s side, No. 1 Serena Williams is guaranteed to keep the world No. 1 ranking for another week after her victory over No. 29 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

No. 4 Jelena Jankovic ousted No. 27 Alona Bondarenko in straight sets and No. 7 Samantha Stosur defeated Anastasia Pivovarova.
