2010 HP Byron Nelson Round 2

Blake Adams and Cameron Beckman share the lead at the HP Byron Nelson Championship after 2 rounds.  Adams and Beckman have a score of 10-under par 130.  While Adams has managed 2 excellent rounds, Beckman grabbed his share of the lead with a record-tying 9-under par 61 on Friday.  Beckman took it in stride, “I had one of those days where everything was clicking, you know?  It doesn’t happen very often, but just the whole day I didn’t have any bogeys all day and never really had a chance to make one all day.  It’s just a lot of fun to play that way.”

Round 1 leader Jason Day is in 3rd place at -9 following a -5 round 2.   Day is keeping his patience, “I’ve played great the last two days, few mistakes the last couple of days and just going to go out there and do exactly what I’ve done the last couple of days.  Just try to hit a lot of fairways, hit some greens, a lot of opportunities for birdies, and if I do make mistakes, hopefully it’s in the right spot.”

Tied for 4th are Steve Elkington and Jeff Overton at 8-under.  Elkington looked like the runaway leader in the morning, as he birdied 4 of his first 5 holes, then held on to par for the rest of the day.

Local player Jordan Spieth, who was granted a sponsors exemption to play, became the 6th youngest player in PGA TOUR history to make a cut at a TOUR event.  Spieth, who is 16 years old, shot a 1-under par 69 today for a total of 3-under par 137.   Spieth played and acted like a TOUR veteran, “Looking back I’m extremely pleased with how the week has gone so far,” said Spieth, “And hopefully I can make a run at the top of the leaderboard the next two days, but we’ll see.”   Leader Blake Adams, who was grouped with Spieth, had high praise, “He did really, really well.  Yesterday he obviously had some nerves on the first hole and he said that was the most nervous he’s ever been over a golf ball, and I told him to relax, breathe, the first shot is over, just have fun from here.  Great kid.  He’s 16 years old playing in front of his home crowd.  There is so much expectation and pressure, and he played solid.  He’s a really, really good kid, nice kid on top of — I don’t care how he hits it, he’s a good kid.”
