2nd round proves difficult at Valero Open

Round 2 of the Valero Open in San Antonio proved difficult for most golfers.  Only 13 players shot under-par (71 or better) in the second-round, compared to 50 in the first-round.  The second-round scoring average of 75.289 is the highest on TOUR since the first-round of the 2008 British Open (75.877).

The cut was made at 4-over, leaving 78 players from a field of 144.   This ties for the second highest cut of the season with the Arnold Palmer Invitational.  The Honda Classic was 6-over.

Rich Beem 71-70—141 (-3)
Geoff Ogilvy 69-72—141 (-3)
Kevin Sutherland 71-70—141 (-3)
Charley Hoffman 68-73—141 (-3)
Kevin Chappell 68-73—141 (-3)
Brendan Steele 69-72—141 (-3)

The seven players tied for the 36-hole lead is tied for the second most on TOUR dating back to 1970. The record for most players tied for the 36-hole lead is eight at the 2001 Greater Hartford Open. The 1977 Westchester also had seven players tied for the lead.
