Hideki Matsuyama, David Toms, Chad Campbell and Chris Stroud began the day tied for the lead at 7-under 203, but Adam Scott (who began the day two strokes back) emerged the victor following a 4-under 66. The 2013 Masters champion outlasted 2013 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner with a birdie-3 on the third extra hole (No. 18).

The winning score of 9-under 271 is the highest at the Colonial since Olin Browne won in 1999 at 8-under 272.

The playoff (the fifth of the season on the PGA TOUR) is the 11th at Colonial. Prior to Sunday, the last playoff came in 2009, when Steve Stricker outlasted Tim Clark and Steve Marino.

With the victory, Scott extends his fully-exempt status on the PGA TOUR through the 2018-19 season.

Scott collects 500 points and moves from No. 58 to No. 14 in the FedExCup standings.

Adam Scott becomes the first player to win the Texas Grand Slam, having won the 2007 Shell Houston Open, 2008 HP Byron Nelson Championship, 2010 Valero Texas Open and 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

With Henrik Stenson finishing T7 at the BMW PGA Championship, Scott needed a

T13 finish or better to retain the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking. He moved into the top spot of the Official World Golf Ranking Monday (May 19, 2014), supplanting Tiger Woods.

Scott is the second Australian to hold the No. 1 ranking, joining Greg Norman, who held the top spot for 331 weeks and most recently January 4, 1998.

Scott became the first World No. 1 to play Colonial since Nick Price in 1995.

The runner-up finish is the fifth of Dufner’s career and first since finishing runner-up at the 2012 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

Making his 180th PGA TOUR start, Nicholas Thompson finished T3. His career-best finish on TOUR is a runner-up effort at the 2008 Ginn sur Mer Classic. Thompson had missed the cut in his last two Colonial starts (2009, 2013).

Brendon Todd finished T5 in his bid to become just the second player to win the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial and HP Byron Nelson Championship in the same year (Ben Hogan/1946). He was the only player in the field to record top-10 finishes at both DFW stops.

Third-round co-leader David Toms, winner of the 2011 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, posted an even-par 70 to finish T5.

Ryan Palmer, who plays out of Colonial Country Club, finished T5 for his second top-10 finish in 11 starts at Colonial (T5-2012, T5-2014). Last year, he finished T14.

Jimmy Walker, who began the week with 48 bogey-free holes, finished T10 to retain the top spot in the FedExCup standings.

Local favorite Jordan Spieth finished T14 in his second Colonial start.
