Americans Defeat Rush

After being on the road in Kalamazoo, Michigan and coming off a 4-3 OT loss against the Wings, the Allen Americans came back to the Allen Event Center to face the Rapid City Rush on Thursday. They demolished the Rapid City Rush with a final score of 6-2. They improved to a 30-6-2-2 with 64 points. 1st in the Western Conference, Central Division. Ian Schultz with two goals, Gary Steffes, Jamie Schaafsma, Tyler Ludwig and Nolan Desoteaux with the goals in the game. Riley Gill stopped 26 out of the 28 shots he faced in the game.

1st Period

Kale Kerbashian slapped the puck past went Riley Gill’s glove side as Rapid City Rush got on the board first for a 1-0 lead with 1:48 into the game. Cody Ferriero and Dallas Ehrhardt got the assists on Kerbashian’s 10th goal of the season.

2nd Period

Ian Schultz tied the game up at 1-1 with his 18th goal of the season as he stuffed a rebound passed John Giggs with 1:15 into the second period with Greger Hanson and Chad Costello getting the assists. Americans made it 2-1 in the second period with Ian Schutlz getting his 2nd goal of the game, his 19th of the season after getting a nifty pass from Greger Hanson that went past Gigg’s glove side. Chad Costello got the other assist on Schultz’s goal. Then Justin Baker send a nifty pass to Gary Steffes who slapped the puck pass Gigg’s blocker side for a 3-1 lead at the 6:03 mark in the second period. That was Steffes’ 27th goal of the season. Jamie Schaafsma extended the lead 4-1 in the second period at the 12:40 mark. Gary Steffes and Rylan Schwartz got the assists on Schaafsma’s 9th goal of the season.

3rd Period

In the third period on the power play, Tyler Ludwig made it 5-1 at the 1:32 mark in the third period. Kevin Young and Rylan Schwartz got the assists on Ludwig’s 10th goal of the season. Nolan Descoteaux made it 6-1 in the third period with a blast from the left faceoff circle past Howe’s glove side with 7:39 in the third period. Gregor Hanson and Ian Schultz got the assists on Descoteaux’s 2nd goal of the season. Cody Ferriero scored that made it 6-2 Americans lead that went in between Gill’s five hole with 10:21 in the third period. Mathieu Brisebois and Kale Kerbashian got the assists on Ferriero’s 9th goal of the season.
