Baradach wins men’s singles at US Open Texas Sectional Qualifying Tournament

Former Southern Methodist University team member Artem Baradach won the men’s final of the 2011 US Open National Playoffs USTA Texas Sectional Qualifying Tournament when he defeated Juan Moreiras in a long three-set match 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, at the Arlington Tennis Center today.
 
With the win, Baradach advances to the US Open National Playoffs – Men’s Championship – Aug. 18-21, in New Haven, Conn., against the other 15 sectional winners in a single elimination tournament. The winner will receive a wild card entry to the US Open Qualifying Tournament at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, in Flushing, N.Y., Aug. 24-27.
 
Baradach, a Dallas native was an All-Conference USA Singles First Team and Doubles honors. He earned his second consecutive trip to the NCAA National Championships playing almost exclusively as the Mustangs No. 1 player. The computer science major transferred to SMU from Stony Brook.
 
Moreiras, a 17-year-old junior at Churchill High School in San Antonio battled Baradach to three sets.
