Baylor Women Advance To Sweet 16

Baylor will make its ninth consecutive trip to the Sweet 16 after beating Cal 86-46 in the second round of the women’s NCAA Tournament on Monday night at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.
Nina Davis collected 16 points, six rebounds and five assists for top-seeded Baylor (32-3), which will play fourth-seeded Louisville in the a regional semifinal on Friday in Oklahoma City.
Alexis Prince had 16 points, six assists and five rebounds for Baylor. Kristy Wallace added 10 points and nine assists.
Kristine Anigwe had a double-double for ninth-seeded Cal (20-14), which beat LSU in the first round. Anigwe finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds but also had 11 turnovers. Courtney Range added eight points and five rebounds off the bench.
Cal led 7-6 early after a basket by Anigwe, but it wasn’t long before Baylor took control. The Bears mounted a 9-0 run to take a 15-7 lead after a 3-pointer by Prince and a layup by Alexis Jones.
Baylor led 17-12 at the end of the first quarter and blew the game open in the second quarter. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Natalie Chou fueled a 13-0 run that gave the Bears a 35-16 lead. They carried a 40-20 advantage into the break after Jones buried a 3-pointer late in the first half.
The Bears extended their lead to 24 early in the second half and went up 50-22 on a layup by Davis. They expanded the lead to 33 later in the third quarter and boosted it to 43 in the fourth quarter.
Baylor shot 47.9 percent from the field and made 6 of 17 from 3-point range. The Bears also forced 24 turnovers and amassed a 47-36 rebounding advantage.
Cal shot 29.3 percent from the field and made only 3 of 13 shots from beyond the arc.
