Big 1st inning lifts Rangers

The Texas Rangers scored 5 runs in the first inning and held on to defeat the Chicago White Sox 6-5.

Texas starting pitcher Rich Harden struggled with control, walking 7, but allowed only 4 hits and 3 earned runs as he achieved his first win of the year.  Closer Neftali Feliz gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in the 9th to bring Chicago to within 1 before getting the final out.

Left-fielder Josh Hamilton opened the scoring for the Rangers with a home run that brought in leadoff hitter Elvis Andrus.  After 3 straight walks by White Sox pitcher Jake Peavey, the Texas bats came alive as the Rangers sent a total of 10 men to the plate for the 5-0 lead.

The deciding run came in the 7th as Michael Young scored on a double by David Murphy.
