Brooks and Moore Named C-USA Players of the Week

After throwing for a career-best 416 yards and five touchdowns in a road win at Florida Atlantic, Old Dominion senior QB David Washington has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. The Defensive Player of the Week honor went to North Texas sophomore DB Nate Brooks, who had two interceptions, a forced fumble and six tackles in a victory over Southern Miss. The Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to North Texas junior K Trevor Moore, who had another perfect day kicking in the Mean Green’s win. C-USA Football Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.

Washington had a career day in Old Dominion’s 42-24 win at Florida Atlantic. He recorded season-highs, completing 26-of-36 passes, for a career-high 416 yards and five touchdown passes. Washington also ran for an additional 21 yards to give him 437 yards of total offense. He threw touchdown passes of 23, 6, 45, 1 and 84 yards, as ODU outscored FAU 29-3 in the second half. Washington completed 17 of his last 19 passes for 279 yards and 4 TDs. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native also ran for a two-point conversion.

Brooks was all over the field on Saturday for the Mean Green, as North Texas topped Southern Miss 29-23 in Denton to keep its bowl hopes alive. Brooks intercepted a pair of passes, forced a fumble, broke up a pass and recorded six total tackles, one of which was for a loss. His two interceptions gives him a team-high four on the season. The Whitehouse, Texas, native jumped a route in the first quarter, leading to the Mean Green’s first touchdown of the day. Brooks bookended his evening with a pick late in the fourth quarter, sealing the win for the Mean Green on senior night.

Moore had another perfect day for the Mean Green, converting on a pair of field goal attempts, from 26 and 39 yards out, respectively, while also knocking through all three extra points he attempted. Those three extended his school record to 92-for-92 on PAT’s during his time with the Mean Green program. The Edmond, Oklahoma, native has helped the Mean Green to be one of just two teams in Conference USA to make all of their PATs this season.
