Bryson DeChambeau wins in Las Vegas

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin had an exciting final round that provided the type of entertainment that people expect when they come to Las Vegas and a happy ending for former SMU golfer Bryson DeChambeau following a 60-foot eagle putt down the stretch that helped seal his fourth PGA Tour victory in his last 12 starts.

“I was coming out here to try and kick rust off and was able to play some good golf,” DeChambeau said, following his one shot win over defending champion Patrick Cantlay. “I’m happy to get it done.”

The eagle on No. 16 was a three-shot swing as DeChambeau moved from one shot back to two up following Catlay’s bogey that simultaneously occurred on No. 17.

DeChambeau earned $1.26 million for his week in Las Vegas and moved up to No. 5 in the rankings with the win in the desert.

Cantlay was trying to become the first player to win back-to-back in Las Vegas in almost 20 years as Jim Furyk won the event in 1998 and successfully defended in 1999.

Rickie Fowler finished in a tie for fourth at 17-under, four shots behind DeChambeau.

Jordan Spieth made his debut in the Las Vegas PGA Tour event and finished in a tie for 55th at 7-under.

Fowler and Spieth will be among the notables who tee it up next week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
