Carr Takes Pay Cut

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr agreed to a pay cut to remain with the team in 2016.

Carr reduced his scheduled salary in 2016 from $9.1 million to $4.25 million with the potential to add $1.75 million in bonuses. The move created $3.6 million in cap space for the Cowboys, who are notorious for toeing the line of maximum cap expenditures.

Carr signed a $50 million deal as a free agent in 2012 and is in the final year of his contract. Carr has gone 20 consecutive games without an interception.

Orlando Scandrick figures to be the other starting cornerback this season for the Cowboys but he is returning from multiple torn knee ligaments.

Dallas also brought back former first-round pick Morris Claiborne on a low-risk deal and the Cowboys are considering bolstering the secondary in the draft. Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey is one serious option under consideration for the Cowboys with the fourth overall pick on Thursday.

The Cowboys scored immediate returns with their 2015 first-rounder, defensive back Byron Jones, the UConn product with freakish athletic ability at either cornerback or safety. Ramsey played both positions at Florida State.

He met with the Cowboys at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, the team attended his campus workout and later hosted Ramsey at their Valley Ranch headquarters.
