Claiborne Skips Cowboys Practice

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne skipped the team’s walk-through practice Tuesday and left the training facility after being told he was being replaced in the starting lineup by Orlando Scandrick, ESPN.com reported Tuesday.

Claiborne could be subject to a fine for his actions.

Claiborne started two of the Cowboys’ first three games with Scandrick sidelined for the first two games because of a suspension.

Claiborne’s demotion and subsequent walk-out occurred after team owner Jerry Jones said on his weekly radio show that Claiborne had not been worth the sixth pick of the 2012 draft.

The Cowboys dealt first- and second-round picks to nab a player whom they expected to develop into a lock-down corner. That hasn’t been the case.

“Is he what we had hoped for at this point when we drafted him with the sixth overall pick, giving up the (second-round) pick to go up to the sixth pick to get him? No,” Jones said on KRLD-FM. “But he’s going to be a good player.”

Claiborne did have an interception Sunday against the St. Louis Rams, but he also was repeatedly targeted in the secondary by Rams quarterback Austin Davis.

After the game, Claiborne said he “stunk it up.”

Meanwhile, the two players who ended up being drafted in the spots the Cowboys gave up for Claiborne — Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers and Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery — are major contributors.
