CMRA Results From Hallett

{fshare id=3866}

Danny Kelsey swept his races, entering five and taking all five wins with his two Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-Rs during CMRA’s round four sprint event on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. Another weekend of large sprint grids had overnight rain, 90-degree temperatures, high humidity and the threat of a really heavy storm front moving in. The rain earlier left some slick spots, creating challenging riding conditions, and fingers were crossed that the race day would finish before the weather broke. But even the threatening skies didn’t deter the competitors from putting forth their very best efforts, and great racing action ensued.

Kelsey rode his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the win in the Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert, RaceworX A Superstock Expert, and HighPerformanceCrew.com A Superbike Expert classes. He took the wins in B Superbike Expert and TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert on his GSX-R750.

Conner Blevins, Brandon Altmeyer, and Daniel Adams also took home four podiums each. Blevins rode his Kawasaki ZX-6R to wins in South Central Race Center C Superstock Expert, C Superbike Expert and

second in TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert and B Superbike Expert.

Altmeyer aboard his Suzuki GSX-R600 took second in South Central Race Center C Superstock Expert, C Superbike Expert and third in TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert and B Superbike Expert.

Adams took the win in D Superstock Expert, second in Formula 2 Expert, D Superbike Expert, and third in Lightweight Twins Expert with his Suzuki SV650.

Danny Kelsey took his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the win in Sunday’s headline race, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert. Rain the night before, and more bad weather moving in, made for some interesting track conditions. Kelsey tore it up from the start of the race, breaking the previous CMRA track record with a blistering fastest lap of 1:14.706. Ty Howard, who had held the previous track record since August, 2010, turned a fastest lap 1:15.631, but couldn’t quite catch Kelsey. Howard firmly held off Cameron Kirk and his Suzuki GSX-R750, keeping him in third place. Howard chased Kelsey, and Kelsey held him off, but two race leaders’ feverish pursuit of each other opened up a 33 second gap over third place. Kelsey made a run for it grabbing the checkers for the win 4 seconds ahead of Howard, leaving him with second place. Kirk held onto third, with William Guthrie, Brandon Young, Ted Phillips, Eric Williams, Grady Sloan, Cecil Keeling, and Joseph Caruso rounding out the top 10 on a 20-bike grid.

Eric Williams won the $100 P1 Racing cash purse for riding the first 600 to cross the finish line during the Formula 1 race. Bringing awareness to finding a cure for Breast Cancer is an important aspect of this race and a donation is made by the CMRA to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each entry in the race. Qualifying for the race is sponsored by 212Decals.com and Howard, Kelsey and Kirk all received a share of the $150 cash purse.

The next match up between the powerhouses of Kelsey and Howard took place in HighPerformanceCrew.com A Superbike Expert. Howard and Kelsey battled it out again, with Howard turning a blazing fastest lap of 1:15.611. Kelsey answered with equally devastating fastest lap of 1:15.318. As they ran each other down, Kelsey edged Howard for the win by 4 seconds and both crossed the line over 38 seconds ahead of third place.

There was even more action on the Novice grids with Jay Newton again taking seven podium finishes and David Napier taking five. Newton rode his Yamaha YZF-R6 to four wins in Moto Liberty C Superstock Novice, House of Paint Designs C Superbike Novice, Road & Track Suspension Formula 1 Novice, OnRoad OffRoad Suspension A Superstock Novice, second place in Lone Star Track Days B Superstock Novice, North Texas Superbikes B Superbike Novice, and third in North Texas Superbikes A Superbike Novice.

Napier spurred his Suzuki GSX-R750 on for the wins in Body Evolution Fitness Center Formula 40 Heavyweight Novice, North Texas Superbikes B Superbike Novice, second place in OnRoad OffRoad Suspension A Superstock Novice, North Texas Superbikes A Superbike Novice and third place in Lone Star Track Days B Superstock Novice.

Nancy Selleck, CMRA Administrator, had this to add, “Round Three was challenging in part due to a combination of wind and water, but exciting nonetheless. Saturday is always special with our K&N Junior Motard race for 8-12 year olds, but the brand-new Team 60 race at the end of the day really kicked it up a notch. The 60-minute, two-rider format had the whole paddock buzzing with anticipation all day and the LeMans start was a real hoot to watch! Sunday brought some fantastic racing and while we didn’t set another all-time record for overall entries, we did set a record for Eagles Canyon Raceway…a very healthy 728. We have a very special club made all the more special by the support of our racers, sponsors, track vendors, crew, corner workers and staff. We truly appreciate each and every one of them. Can’t wait for the next round at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in May!”

On behalf of our racers, the CMRA would like thank our 2013 Class Sponsors including: 212Decals.com, 995PaintWorks.com, Body Evolution Fitness Center, Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing, HighPerformanceCrew.com, House of Paint Designs, Houston Superbikes, Island Racing Services, K&N Motorcycles, Lone Star Track Days, Moto Liberty, North Texas Superbikes, OnRoad OffRoad Suspension, RaceworX, Relentless Swagg, Road & Track Suspension, Six Three Cycles, South Central Race Center, Texas Tornado Boot Camp and TrackTactics Track Days.
