College Football Playoffs Set

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS – The College Football Playoff (CFP) Selection Committee announced today its final set of rankings for the 2014 regular season along with match-ups for the Playoff Semifinals and New Year’s bowls.

No. 1 Alabama will face No. 4 Ohio State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and No. 2 Oregon will square off with No. 3 Florida State in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual, both on January 1, 2015.

“We have two outstanding playoff semifinals which will set the stage for a dynamic national championship game,” said College Football Playoff Selection Committee Chair Jeff Long.

Alabama and Ohio State meet for just the fourth time; the last contest took place on January 1, 1995, in the Citrus Bowl in which Alabama went on to win, 24-15. The Alabama Crimson Tide finished the season as Southeastern Conference Champions with a 12-1 overall record and 7-1 in conference. The Ohio State Buckeyes finished the season as Big Ten Conference Champions with a 12-1 overall record and 8-0 in conference. Oregon and Florida State meet for the first time in history. The Oregon Ducks finished the season as Pac-12 Conference Champions with a 12-1 overall record and 8-1 in conference. The Florida State Seminoles finished the season as

The winner of the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual and the winner of the Allstate Sugar Bowl will face off in Arlington at AT&T Stadium for the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, January 12.

The CFP also announced the New Year’s bowl match-ups, which will establish an exciting back-to-back holiday bowl game schedule.

On Wednesday, December 31, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl will feature No. 9 Mississippi versus No. 6 TCU; the VIZIO Fiesta Bowl will match No. 20 Boise State against No. 10 Arizona. The Capital One Orange Bowl also announced that No. 7 Mississippi State will face off against No. 12 Georgia Tech.

New Year’s Day will feature No. 8 Michigan State against No. 5 Baylor in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl; followed by the Playoff Semifinals at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual and the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
