Cowboys 33, Redskins 30

The Dallas Cowboys avenged their early season loss to the Washington Redskins with a 33-30 win at home.

Dallas took an early 13-0 lead after playing almost the entire 1st quarter on the Washington side of the field.  The first Cowboy touchdown came after Gerald Sensabaugh intercepted a Rex Grossman pass to set up a Jon Kitna to Miles Austin touchdown pass.  After the Cowboys failed on a 4th and goal from the 1-yard line earlier in the game, Dallas again called upon Buehler’s foot for a short field goal when they stalled again in the red zone.

After the Redskins fight back with a TD of their own, Dallas marches down the field and scores on a Jason Witten touchdown reception to make it 20-7 at halftime.

The Cowboys extended their lead to 27-7 in the 3rd quarter on a Tashard Choice rushing touchdown.  Washington would score again and the Cowboys mounted a 10-play drive which again fizzled in the red zone.  Buehler’s 3rd field goal of the day was only 20 yards.  The Cowboys entered the 4th quarter with a 30-14 lead.

Washington would score two quick touchdowns and was successful with a 2-point conversion both times to tie the game at 30 midway through the 4th quarter.

The teams traded punts until the Cowboys began their final drive with 3 minutes 11 seconds left.  A couple of Dallas first downs forced the Redskins to use all of their timeouts as the Cowboys kept the ball on the ground to eat up the clock.  Buehler was called upon to hit his 4th field goal of the game with 50 seconds left.

The Redskins were able to advance to midfield before Terence Newman intercepted Grossman’s pass as time expired.

Jason Witten led all receivers with 10 catches for 140 yards.  In the process, he became the 4th tight end in NFL history to have 600 or more catches.
