Cowboys’ Brent Arrested Again

Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent was sent back to a North Texas jail on Thursday after he failed a second drug test.

ESPN Dallas/Fort Worth reported that a Dallas County judge held Brent’s bond “insufficient,” according to the District Attorney’s office.

However, the Cowboys have no plans at the moment to release Brent, ESPN reported.

Brent had been free on a $100,000 bond while awaiting trial on intoxication manslaughter charges stemming from a car crash on Dec. 8 that killed his best friend and teammate, Jerry Brown. Brent’s blood-alcohol level that night allegedly was more than twice the legal limit.

Prosecutors had filed a motion on Tuesday asking a judge to revoke Brent’s bond because it was revealed he failed a drug test taken on June 19. According to court records, Brent tested positive for marijuana twice.

In fact, prosecutors had requested Brent be sent back to prison as early as May when he set off an alcohol-monitoring device and failed to download it as required by the court.

At a May 24 hearing, a judge ordered Brent to submit to breath samples to monitor any alcohol intake.

Brent’s next court hearing is set for July 19. No new bond has been set.

He faces up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted on the intoxication manslaughter charge.

Brent is still on the Cowboys 90-man roster.
