Cowboys Comeback Slips Through Dez Bryant’s Fingers

The Dallas Cowboys travelled to Baltimore to open a stretch of 4 road games in 5 weeks.  It did not start well.

The Cowboys found themselves down by 11 in the 2nd half and managed to fight back to within 1-point at 24-23 in the 4th quarter.  The Ravens extended their lead to 8 with a 10 play, 73 yard touchdown drive in the 4th quarter.   Dallas countered with an 18 play, 80 yard drive which culminated in a touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Dez Bryant.

The Cowboys attempted to tie the game with a 2-point conversion, but the pass to Bryant went through his fingers.

Dallas recovered an onside kick, and, with the help of a pass interference penalty, lined up for a game-winning 51-yard field goal attempt by Dan Bailey.  The kick went wide, leaving the miracle comeback short.

The Dallas offensive line won the battle in the trenches against the Ravens.  The Cowboys rushed for 227 yards, the most ever against the Ravens.  DeMarco Murray ran for 93 yards before leaving the game with a foot injury.  Felix Jones saw his most extensive play time of the season and gained 92 yards for the Cowboys.  Former UNT star Lance Dunbar made his pro debut with 1 carry for 11 yards.

Quarterback Tony Romo completed 25 of 36 passes for 261 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Dez Bryant had one of his best days until the failed 2-point conversion.  Bryant caught 13 passes for 95 yards.  Tight end Jason Witten gained 88 yards on 6 catches.

Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco went 17 of 36 for 234 yards and a touchdown as the Ravens keep the NFL’s longest regular season home winning streak alive at 14.  Running back Ray Rice was held to just 63 yards on 16 carries.

As expected, the game was filled with big hits and defensive pressure.  Both teams were held without a 100-yard rusher or receiver, and neither quarterback passed for 300 yards.

The Ravens improve to 5-1 while the Cowboys drop to 2-3.  Dallas travels to Carolina next week to take on the Panthers, who were idle this week.
