Cowboys Draft Board Exposed

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones inadvertently exposed the team’s draft board during TV interviews prior to the NFL draft in April.

Blogging The Boys, a website that covers the Cowboys, was able to put together the team’s draft board through pictures of Jones, who repeatedly stood in front of the draft board during the interviews. Jones conducted the interviews inside the team’s draft war room.

It revealed that: wide receivers Cordarrelle Patterson and Tavon Austin were graded as first-round picks; three tackles and two guards were among their top 18 graded-players; their first-round pick, offensive lineman Travis Frederick, was ranked 22nd on their board (they took him with the No. 31 overall pick); second-round pick Gavin Escobar was ranked 25th; third-round pick Terrance Williams was ranked 23rd overall.

The Cowboys draft board also showed that: Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert received a first-round grade by the Cowboys but they did not draft him with the No. 16 overall pick (they instead traded it to the San Francisco 49ers, who took safety Eric Reed); quarterback E.J. Manuel was drafted by the Buffalo Bills 18th overall but Dallas graded him as a fourth rounder; they gave running back Joseph Randle a third-round grade but selected him in the fifth round.

The Cowboys’ draft board was similarly compromised in 2010.
