Cowboys fire Phillips, Garrett named interim coach

Irving, TX – Jerry Jones announced from the Dallas Cowboys headquarters in Valley Ranch that Wade Phillips is out as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.  Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett is named interim head coach, effective immediately.

Phillips has led the Cowboys to 2 division titles in 3 years as the Cowboys head coach and defensive coordinator.  A 1-7 start to this season was enough to make Jones switch coaches mid-season.  The Cowboys have looked flat and unprepared all season.  Jones acknowledged the players will also be held accountable for the rest of the season, “We want players that want to work hard.”

Jason Garrett was hired as offensive coordinator even before Phillips was selected as head coach.  Many thought his placement in this position was a foregone conclusion.  Garrett was once highly sought after as a head coach.  However, as his offense has floundered in the red zone, his stock has dropped dramastically throughout the NFL.

Paul Pasqualoni was named as the defensive coordinator.
