Cowboys Make Changes To Lineup

The Dallas Cowboys may not be finished with making changes in the starting lineup during the team’s bye week after switching to Matt Cassel as their quarterback.

Coach Jason Garrett confirmed Wednesday that Cassel will take over for Brandon Weeden at quarterback when the Cowboys face the New York Giants for the second time this season and announced that rookie La’El Collins will move into the lineup at left guard in place of Ronald Leary.

Collins, who started in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons while Leary was recovering from a groin strain, was inactive the past two weeks.

The Cowboys also are considering making a change at running back, sources told ESPN.com.

Running back Christine Michael, who was acquired via trade from the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 6, could start over Joseph Randle in the Cowboys’ backfield before the Oct. 25 game against the Giants.

Michael, who was inactive in the first three games after being acquired, rushed for six yards on one attempt in last Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the New England Patriots. In 14 games over two seasons with the Seahawks, Michael, a second-round pick in 2013, had 52 carries for 254 yards.

The Cowboys (2-3) are winless in three games without Tony Romo as their starting quarterback.

Weeden started three games after Romo went down with a broken collarbone, completing 64 of 91 passes for 666 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Cassell was acquired in late September from the Buffalo Bills in a trade. He has more experience than Weeden, with 96 touchdown passes, 70 interceptions and 15,727 yards passing over 10 seasons.
