Cowboys’ Murray Named NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Month

The NFL announced today running back DeMarco Murray of the Dallas Cowboys was named Offensive Rookie of the Month for November.  

Murray, a third-round selection out of Oklahoma, rushed for 434 yards and one touchdown in November as the Cowboys posted a 4-0 record to take over first place in the NFC East.  He had two 100-yard games during the month, rushing for 139 yards in Week 9 and 135 yards in Week 10. He has three career 100-yard rushing games, including a franchise-record 253 yards in Week 7.  For the month, Murray led the NFC with 590 scrimmage yards (434 rushing, 156 receiving) and finished second in the league with 434 rushing yards.

Since Week 7, Murray leads the NFL with 761 rushing yards (126.8 yards per game).  Murray had at least 20 carries in all four games during November. The Cowboys are 5-0 when Murray has at least 20 rushing attempts.  He leads NFL rookies in rushing yards (834), scrimmage yards (1,011), rushing attempts (147), rushing average (5.7), first downs (47) and rushing first downs (38).

Murray is the fourth Cowboy to earn NFL Rookie of the Month honors and the first since DE MARCUS WARE in 2005 (Defense, October). The other Cowboys to be recognized are JULIUS JONES (Offense, November 2004) and DEXTER COAKLEY (Defense, October 1997).  He is the first running back from Oklahoma to be honored since Minnesota’s ADRIAN PETERSON (September and October, 2007).
