Cowboys Season Comes To Disappointing End

The Dallas Cowboys will miss the playoffs for the 3rd straight season after losing to the Washington Redskins 28-18 Sunday night.  It is the 11th time in the last 13 seasons that the Cowboys have lost the final game of the regular season.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo added to his reputation of choking in big games as he threw 3 interceptions, including Dallas’ first and last drives of the game.  All were poorly thrown passes.  Romo finished the game 20 of 37 for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns to go with the 3 picks.

On the other side of the field, Redskin rookie quarterback Robert Griffin, III played a ball-control offense that saw him complete 9 of 18 passes for 100 yards while rushing for another 63 yards.  Griffin had the added advantage of giving the ball to Alfred Morris, who rushed for 200 yards against the weakened Dallas defense.

The Cowboys running game never took off, though both DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones each averaged over 4.5 yards per carry.  Murray gained 76 yards on 17 carries while Jones added 24 yards on 5.

The Dallas receivers were depleted as Miles Austin suffered and injured ankle and was held without a catch, Dwayne Harris injured his lower leg, and Dez Bryant, already playing with an injured hand, suffered a back injury.  Bryant still led the Cowboys in receiving yards, with 71 on 4 catches.

Jason Witten caught 7 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown.

The Cowboys gave up 274 yards rushing to the Redskins, and gave up 3 2nd-half touchdowns.

It will be a long off-season for Dallas, with Romo taking most of the blame for another failed season.
