The Dallas Cowboys managed to look horrible again in front of a national audience on New Years night. The New York Giants trounced the Cowboys 31-14 to win the NFC East and advance to the Playoffs.

The Giants ruled the first half, taking a 21-0 lead into halftime. New York had 15 first downs in the first half, converting 71% of 3rd downs. All of the 3rd down conversions came by passing. The Cowboys secondary left much of the field open, allowing Giants quarterback Eli Manning to throw anywhere he pleased.

The Cowboys came alive in the 3rd quarter, mounting a 94 yard scoring drive and putting some defensive pressure on Manning.

After an early Cowboys 4th quarter touchdown, making the score 21-14, the Giants again went to work on the Dallas secondary. A 9-play drive ending in a field goal put the Giants up by 10. With Dallas forced into passing situations, the Giants defense forced a punt. Manning then took the Giants into the end zone for the final touchdown.

A sack of Tony Romo which forced a fumble allowed the Giants to run out the clock.

For the game, Giants quarterback Eli Manning completed 24 of 33 passes for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns. Manning had a QB rating of 136.7.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo ended with 29 of 37 for 289 yards and 2 touchdowns. His QB rating was 106.0.

The Cowboys did not have much of a ground game, with Felix Jones gaining just 30 yards on 11 carries and Sammie Morris gaining 16 on 3 attempts.

Tight end Jason Witten led the Cowboys receivers with 7 catches for 69 yards.

For the Giants, 9 different players had receptions, with Victor Cruz catching 6 for 178 yards.

Now the Cowboys can return home and watch the playoffs on television, just like they have done for most of this century.
