Cowboys win at home

Arlington, TX – The Dallas Cowboys won their first home game of the year with a 35-19 victory over the Detroit Lions.  Once again, it was Bryan McCann sparking the Cowboys with a 97-yard punt return to put the Cowboys ahead for good.

The Dallas offense began the game with a 98 yard drive for the opening score, then went flat.  For the next 6 drives, the Cowboys couldn’t move the ball, even giving up a safety that put the Lions in the lead 12-7 midway through the 3rd quarter.  Then the McCann punt return lit a fire for Dallas.  The Cowboys recovered a fumble at the Lions 19 and capped off the turnover with a 3 yard touchdown pass to Miles Austin.

Following a Detroit touchdown which brought the Lions to within 2 points, the Cowboys mounted touchdown drives of 71 and 80 yards to seal the win.

Dallas quarterback Jon Kitna played an effecient game, completing 18 of 24 for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns.  He also ran for 40 yards, including a 29 yard touchdown on 4th and 1.

The Cowboys defense continued to struggle on 3rd down, allowing the Lions to convert 56% of the time, many on 3rd and more than 5.   Only recovering 3 key turnovers kept Dallas in the game.

The Cowboys will have to put together a more complete game if they hope to defeat the World Champion New Orleans Saints on Thursday.
