Nelson Cruz went 4-for-5 to lead the Texas Rangers to a 14-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night at the Ballpark in Arlington.
The Rangers jumped out front early with 6 runs in the first inning as they sent 11 batters to the plate. It would set the tone as Texas generated 18 hits in the game.
Cruz had 8 RBIs on the night, and capped the evening with a 7th inning grand slam. Rangers manager Ron Washington was thrilled with Cruz’ performance, “You can’t say enough about what Cruz did. You work almost a whole month to put up those kind of RBIs and he did it one night. That’s definitely what he’s capable of doing. I hope that’s something he can continue.”
Josh Hamilton and Yorvit Torrealba also homered for the Rangers.
Starting pitcher Derek Holland had an easy night after the Rangers gave him a 6 run lead. Holland went 7 1/3 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 9.
The Rangers improve to 28-18 and will host Toronto again this afternoon.
