Dallas Cowboys Training Camp Begins

{fshare id=2844}

The Dallas Cowboys took to the field for the first time as training camp got underway in Oxnard, California.  As is the custom with owner Jerry Jones, the Cowboys opened with flair.  With a drum line and Oxnard’s Mayor present, 3 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders sang the National Anthem, followed by skydivers delivering a football.

That was the highlight of the day, as practice consisted mostly of walk-thru’s and light workouts.  Even so, the Cowboys managed to have injury problems as Dez Bryant, Morris Claiborne, and Bill Nagy and left the field with injuries.  Bryant and Claiborne returned to practice, but Nagy went for x-rays.

Running back Felix Jones, receiver Andre Holmes, and safety Brodney Poole all did not practice after failing Sunday’s conditioning test.   History has shown it is not a good sign when players report to camp out of shape.  This is unacceptable for players who claim to spend the off-season working out.  Jones, a former 1st round pick and starting running back has received criticism for under-achieving and is expected to lose his starting spot to Demarco Murray.  Holmes was considered a leader in the race to fill the 3rd receiver spot vacated by Laurent Robinson.  Pool was just picked up by the Cowboys in free agency during the off-season.
