Dallas Stars win home opener

The Dallas Stars remain unbeaten as the defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 in their home opener at the American Airlines Center.

The Stars built a 4-0 lead before the third period, dominating Detroit on both sides of the ice.

Brad Richards scored 2 goals, Brenden Morrow, James Neal and Loui Eriksson added one each.  Goalie Kari Lehtonen continued his superb play, with 25 saves.

This was the first visit back to Dallas by former Stars icon Mike Modano.  “It was really nice. It was great to be back, great to see familiar faces,” Modano said. “There was just a world of emotions and memories. A lot of special things have gone on here. I was involved in the game from the ground floor and helping to promote the game of hockey here in Texas. It was fun to play here.” 

The Stars scored on a power play within the first minute of the game, setting the tone for the entire night.  The Red Wings never challenged, despite outshooting the Stars 12-4 in the final period.

Dallas will go for 4-in-a-row when they host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
