Dallas Trades Up To Get Cornerback Claiborne

The Dallas Cowboys traded with St. Louis to move up to the 6th overall pick in the NFL draft.  With the pick, the Cowboys selected defensive back Morris Claiborne from LSU.

Dallas traded their 1st round pick, number 14 overall, and their 2nd round pick, 45th overall, to the Rams.

Claiborne is considered the best cornerback in the draft.  He was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year and was the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award.

The Cowboys’ secondary was arguably the weakest link on the team last season.  Dallas already signed free agent Brandon Carr to join Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick in the secondary.  Jenkins spent much of last season with knee and shoulder injuries.  Long-time cornerback Terrance Newman will not be back with the team.
