Darvish Gets Back Injection

Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish had an injection in his lower back on Wednesday to treat a nerve issue, according to ESPNDallas.com.

Darvish will be re-evaluated in November after he returns from Japan. He is expected to be ready by spring training

“We’re hopeful it will resolve the issue,” general manager Jon Daniels said. “We expect him to be 100 percent.”

Darvish lost strength in his right leg because of the nerve problem, Daniels said. Darvish was seen several times toward the end of the season touching the area with his right hand between pitches.

“He wasn’t as powerful as he wanted to be after being out there for an extended period of time,” Daniels said.

Darvish went 13-9 with a 2.83 ERA and led the major leagues with 277 strikeouts this season.

Daniels said the nerve issue started in August but Darvish put off the injection because he did not want to miss any starts.

Darvish’s injury is not the same one that fellow Rangers pitcher Harrison has, which caused him to miss much of the season. An MRI on Harrison revealed a problem with a disc in his lower back, which resulted in two operations.
