Darvish Toughs Out Rain, Beats Wilson

Rain spoiled the highly anticipated matchup between former Texas Ranger CJ Wilson and his replacement, Yu Darvish. Wilson faced just 5 Texas batters before the rain caused a 2-hour rain delay which ended Wilson’s night. Of those 5 batters, 4 reached base and scored. That was enough to give Wilson the loss in the 10-3 game.
Darvish endured the rain delay and came back out to pitch, giving the Rangers bullpen a rest after finishing a road trip with a double-header on Thursday. Michael Young was appreciative of Darvish’s effort, “Coming back from the rain delay was the biggest thing. It gives us a chance to save our bullpen,” Young said. “We’re in a stretch right now where we’re going to have to use a spot starter next week. For him to come back after a long delay shows what he’s made of. As a teammate, you definitely appreciate that.”
Darvish went 5 1/3 innings, giving up 3 hits, 2 of them home runs. Darvish struck out 7 and moved to 5-1 on the year.
Josh Hamilton belted 2 more home runs, giving him 8 in the last 5 games. Hamilton now has 17 on the season in just 33 games.
Every Texas starter got a hit in the game. Mitch Moreland hit a solo home run in the 7th inning. Craig Gentry and Mike Napoli each hit triples.
Wilson will get a chance to start again as the Angels play the Rangers again on Saturday afternoon at the Ballpark in Arlington. Wilson will face Matt Harrison for the noon showdown.
