FC Dallas Defeat Vancouver

Kellyn Acosta and Maximiliano Urruti scored second-half goals to help FC Dallas improve Major League Soccer’s best record with a 2-0 victory over the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

FC Dallas (13-6-5) extended its lead in the Western Conference standings to six points over second-place Colorado. Vancouver (8-8-6) remained in sixth place, one point behind Real Salt Lake and one point ahead of Portland.

Both teams had chances to score in the opening half, but the game remained scoreless at the break. FC Dallas finally broke through early in the second half.

Acosta fired from the left side of the box to beat Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted in the 56th minute, putting FC Dallas up 1-0. Michael Barrios was credited with the assist.

Moments later, Urruti found a through ball from Atiba Harris at his feet and did not squander the opportunity. He took aim from the right side of the box and put the ball in the bottom left corner, giving FC Dallas a 2-0 advantage in the 59th minute.

FC Dallas outshot Vancouver 16-6 but had a narrow 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.
