HOUSTON – FC Dallas earned a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo tonight at BBVA Stadium.

Dallas’ No. 10 returned to the starting lineup for the first time this season and began pulling the strings immediately. Diaz orchestrated four chances for Dallas to score in the opening 10 minutes of the match, the best of which forced a sprawling save from Houston defender Dylan Remick to keep the score, 0-0.

That play began on the left flank, where Diaz combined with Tesho Akindele. Diaz’s entry pass put the Canadian midfielder behind the defense, but Akindele cut back and found Maxi Urruti near the top of the area. Urruti fired a shot that forced a save out of Dynamo goalkeeper Tyler Deric, but the rebound fell to FCD’s Michael Barrios. The winger had Deric beat but Remick made a sliding save to deny the shot attempt.

Dallas held a 60-40 advantage in possession up to the 19th minute, when a pass from Maynor Figueroa was intercepted and immediately sent forward to Dynamo forward Erick Torres. The striker netted his 11th goal of the season after winning the long ball, cutting to the right side and slipping a low shot underneath the right arm of FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez.

FC Dallas broke through in the 59th minute when Diaz played a cutting pass to compliment the run of Barrios down the right side of Houston’s 18-yard box. Barrios set up Urruti with his first touch and the Argentine’s shot towards the back post deflected off a Houston defender to cross up the goalkeeper.

Urruti’s ninth goal of the season trickled over the goal line to level the match, 1-1.

Tempers flared in the 80th minute as Dallas’ Hernan Grana and Houston’s Alex were both shown yellow cards following an altercation in FCD’s third of the field.
The two Colombian head coaches, Dallas’ Oscar Pareja and Houston’s Wilmer Cabrera, made tactical substitutions in the second half, looking to break the 1-1 draw, but neither rival could find a second goal The Texas derby match finished in a draw for the second consecutive time, setting up an all-important third leg in Toyota Stadium on August 23.
