FC Dallas Lose At Real Salt Lake

Defender Jamison Olave scored late in the second half to break a scoreless deadlock and Real Salt Lake made the goal hold up in a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas on Saturday night.

It was just the second win in six home matches for Real Salt Lake (11-8-7) over FC Dallas since 2012. The win moved Real into third place in the Western Conference behind Dallas and Colorado.

FC Dallas (13-7-6) had a tough time getting anything going offensively against Real’s defense, which held the Western Conference leaders without a shot on goal before halftime.

Real Salt Lake had an equally tough time generating offense until Olave provided unlikely heroics, scoring just his second goal of the season in the 78th minute.

After Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz saved a shot by forward Joao Plata to set up a corner kick, midfielder Javier Morales took the ball and served it into the 6-yard box. The ball deflected up top to Olave and, after settling it, blasted the ball down the middle and threaded it under the bar.

Maxi Urruti created Dallas’ best scoring chance earlier in the 54th minute. He dribbled into the top of the box and threaded the ball between two Real Salt Lake defenders. Urruti’s shot headed for the right post where goalkeeper Nick Rimando parried it away to keep Dallas off the board.
