FC Dallas Tops Real Salt Lake

FRISCO, Texas  – FC Dallas returned to their winning ways in resounding style with a 6-2 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium. Roland Lamah netted a first-half hat trick, Victor Ulloa made his 100th MLS appearance, Tesho Akindele scored the club’s 1,000th goal and Jesus Ferreira became the youngest player in club history to both appear in a match and score a goal. 

FC Dallas took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when Carlos Gruezo lifted a pass over the top of the Salt Lake defense from central midfield. Michael Barrios was on the receiving end of the long pass. The Colombian had time to pick up his head and see Roland Lamah, who was making a run towards the back post. Barrios bend a right-footed pass around a defender and Lamah deposited the ball in the back of the net for the early advantage.

Salt Lake nearly countered on a corner kick opportunity in the 21st minute. Kyle Beckerman brought down the serve with a header at the far corner of the six-yard box. The pass fell to Omar Holness, but the midfielder skied the shot attempt.

FC Dallas broke out seconds later with a counter-attack initiated by center back Atiba Harris. Maxi Urruti brought the ball down in a two-on-one break, pulled the defender away and centered the ball for Lamah. The Belgian took a touch and finished easily to make it 2-0, in the 22nd minute.

Lamah completed the fastest hat-trick in franchise history in the 31st minute. Victor Ulloa picked off a pass and got the ball to Gruezo. The Ecuadoran slid a through ball between two RSL defenders and Lamah powered a shot through the arms of goalkeeper Matt Van Oekel to make it 3-0.

Urruti fired home his seventh goal of the season in the 39th minute. Ulloa, who became the eighth Homegrown player in league history to make 100 appearances during the match, picked up an assist on the goal.

Tesho Akindele netted the 1,000th goal in FC Dallas history in the 43rd minute on an assist from Barrios. The goal also gave FCD the distinction of being the only team in MLS history to score five goals in a half.

 



Real Salt Lake ruined FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez’s clean sheet in the 70th minute. Omar Holness finished with his first touch after Joao Plata found him inside the area with a short pass.

Jesus Ferreira, the son of former MLS MVP David Ferreira, became the youngest player in FC Dallas history ever to appear in a match, when he came on for Lamah in the 70th minute.

RSL scored its second of the match in the 72nd minute. Kyle Beckerman headed the ball home at the near post on a corner kick served in by Albert Rusnák.
