Former Champions Commit To HP Byron Nelson Tournament

IRVING, TX, April 23, 2012 – Former major winners and two past champions have committed to the 2012 HP Byron Nelson Championship.Fans attending the Championship can now add Jason Day, Ernie Els, and Padraig Harrington to the growing list of players coming to North Texas.

 

The HPBNC was the site of Day’s first PGA TOUR victory, where in 2010 he survived putting his ball in the water on the 72nd hole to beat Blake Adams by two shots. Day has already posted three top-20 finishes this season after finishing 2011 with second place finishes in the U.S. Open and Masters tournaments.

 

Els is a former major winner, capturing the 1994 and 1997 U.S. Open as well as the 2002 British Open. He is also a former HPBNC champion, winning in 1995 by three strokes. Ernie has had a very good beginning to 2012, posting six top-25 finishes so far this season.

 

This will be Harrington’s first ever appearance at the HPBNC. Padraig has had a storied career winning three majors, with two British Open Championships in 2007, 2008 and a PGA Championship in 2008 to his name.

 

Other recent commitments include Ben Curtis and Jason Dufner. Dufner is currently at No. 23 on the PGA TOUR Money List, having already posted 6 top-25 finishes this season. Curtis is coming off a win last weekend at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio and was the 2003 British Open champion.

 

The 2012 HP Byron Nelson Championship will be played May 14-20 at the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas in Irving.
