French Open Day 4

The men’s draw went almost as expected on Day 4 of the French Open.  All of the seeded players won in straight sets except one, No. 11, Mikhail Youzhny, who needed 4 sets to win.  You have to look all the way down the list to the 32nd seed, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, to find a seeded player in the loss column.

Last year’s finalist, No. 5 Robin Soderling, destroyed American Taylor Dent.  Soderling only dropped 2 games over the course of 3 sets.  No. 8 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was almost as good, losing only 5 games in his victory over fellow Frenchman Josselin Ouanna.  No. 10 Marin Cilic and No. 15 Tomas Berdych were also winners on the day.

For the women, No. 2 Venus Williams advanced, getting more attention for her outragous dress than for her tennis.  No. 3 Caroline Wozniacki and No. 6 Svetlana Kuznetsova were also winners.

No. 24 Lucie Safarova was the only seeded woman to lose.
