SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS  – The Frisco RoughRiders bounced back from their three-game losing streak with a 7-3 win in San Antonio against the Missions on Wednesday night at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. The ‘Riders tallied six unearned runs off the Missions, five in the sixth inning, to capture the victory.

Frisco (33-25) never trailed in the ballgame. Part of a three-hit night, Odubel Herrera drove home Brett Nicholas in the third inning to give the ‘Riders the early lead off San Antonio starter Matt Roach.

Neil Ramirez was strong on Wednesday. The RoughRiders right-hander walked just one and struck out seven in his six innings of work. His lone blemish came in the fifth when a leadoff walk came home to score on a double from Jake Blackwood. The sole Frisco error of the night put Blackwood at third with no outs, but Ramirez bore down. He struck out Anthony Contreras and Eddy Rodriguez and then induced a groundout to end the inning to keep the game tied at 1-1.

The ‘Riders took control of the game in the sixth inning. Alex Buchholz and Chih-Hsien Chiang reached on back-to-back Missions errors to begin the frame. Both runners scored. Tomas Telis drove home Buchholz with a double, and Ryan Strausborger plated two with a double to make it 4-1. That spelled the end of the night for Roach (4-5), who didn’t allow an earned run on the night but was still handed the loss. San Antonio (31-26) then brought on Ryan Kelly, and the first pitch he threw was knocked out of the park by Hanser Alberto, a two-run homer, to give Frisco a 6-1 advantage.

After a ‘Riders insurance run in the eighth, the Missions tallied a couple runs off of Frisco reliever Ryan Rodebaugh, but it was not nearly enough. Jimmy Reyes pitched a perfect ninth to wrap things up, and the RoughRiders captured the 7-3 win.

Five different RoughRiders batters collected at least two hits, led by Herrera’s three. Five different players knocked extra-base hits, and the team posted 14 hits on the night. Ramirez (6-2) picked up the win.

The RoughRiders play game three of the series in San Antonio Thursday at 7:05 pm against the Missions. Kevin Pucetas (6-4, 4.63 ERA) toes the rubber for the ‘Riders against southpaw Jose De Paula (4-5, 3.54 ERA). Fans can tune in to the play-by-play broadcast on www.RidersBaseball.com beginning at 6:40.
