FRISCO, TEXAS -The Frisco RoughRiders defeated the Midland RockHounds 5-3 Monday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. With the victory, the ‘Riders avoided the series sweep.

In his first professional start, Phil Klein took a no-hitter to the third. Chad Oberacker led off the third with a single to center, and Conner Crumbliss singled to right. D’Arby Myers grounded into a fielder’s choice, advancing Oberacker to third and then Jefry Marte knocked a single RBI, giving Midland (25-38, 58-75) the 1-0 lead.

Teodoro Martinez led off the third with a hammer over the center field fence. Rougned Odor reached base on a fielder’s choice and then stole second. The RoughRiders (26-37, 65-68) then took the lead off a single by Brett Nicholas. Kalian Sams led off the fourth with a solo home run of his own, extending the lead 3-1.

In the fifth, Diomedes Lopez singled, Crumbliss walked and Myers singled to load the bases. Marte then knocked a sac fly, scoring the run. Later in the frame, Max Muncy singled and Crumbliss scored on the throwing error by Ryan Rua, tying the game at three.

With one out in the sixth, Nicholas walked, Sams singled to left field and the runners advanced on an error by Oberacker. Frisco reclaimed the lead on a fielder’s choice knocked by Chih-Hsien Chiang that brought Nicholas home. Ryan Strausborger led off the seventh with a single, stole second and

then advanced to third on a groundout. Nicholas then singled in the run, extending the lead 5-3, which became the final.

Kyle McClellan (2-0) came on in the sixth to pitch two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn the victory, while Nate Long (2-2) allowed two runs on three hits in two innings to suffer the defeat. Lisalverto Bonilla pitched two scoreless innings with six strikeouts to earn his fifth save.

The ‘Riders begin their final series of the season with the Corpus Christi Hooks Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Rangers starting pitcher Nick Tepesch (-, -) makes his first rehab start for the RoughRiders, facing David Rollins (0-1, 2.38 ERA) for the Hooks.
