FRISCO, TEXAS – The RoughRiders fell to the Midland RockHounds 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Dr Pepper Ballpark following an eighth inning two-out rally that fell just short. Four consecutive singles cut the deficit to two but a four-run third inning proved to be enough for Midland.

‘Rider starter Edwar Cabrera stymied the RockHounds in the first two innings but the story was different in the third. Midland designated hitter Miles Head earned a lead off walk and Blake Forsythe reached first on an error by ‘Rider third baseman Tomas Telis. The ‘Rider catcher, playing third with Ryan Rua as the Frisco designated hitter, had a ground ball pop out of his glove and wasn’t able to recover after spinning and firing to first.

Chad Oberacker capitalized and sent a double down the first base line to score Head and send Forsythe to third. Colin Wash grounded out to second base to make the first out of the frame but picked up the RBI to make it 2-0 Midland.

RockHounds first baseman Max Muncy got in on the action by hitting an RBI single to right field to make it 3-0, and Dusty Coleman added a fourth run in the inning on a sky high pop up that landed in between Trever Adams and Rougned Odor. Cabrera concluded the 33-pitch inning by getting Hiroyuki Nakajima to fly

out to shallow right-center.

Muncy exited the game in the fifth inning after being struck in the chest while trying to break up a double play, and Anthony Aliotti replaced his comrade at first base.

It was all RockHounds through seven innings but Frisco stringed together four consecutive two-out base hits in the eighth frame to bust the shutout. Telis plated Odor with an RBI single to right and Rua scored Smolinski on a single to center and the RoughRiders cut the deficit to 4-2.

The four-run third inning was enough for Midland as Seth Frankoff earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Cabrera (1-1) allowed four runs (two of them earned) on three hits in 4.1 innings pitched while recording six strikeouts. Andrew Werner (1-2) earned his first win of the season pitching five shutout innings and allowed two hits while striking out five.

Frisco and Midland pick up the action again tomorrow at 7:05 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Jerad Eickhoff (2-2, 4.56 ERA) returns to the mound for Frisco and challenges fellow righty Drew Granier (1-1, 4.28 ERA).
