Frisco Snaps Losing Streak

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders snapped their three-game losing streak as they beat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 6-1 Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. With eight strikeouts on the night, Carlos Pimentel became the RoughRiders all-time leader in strikeouts with 311, breaking the record set by former RoughRider Thomas Diamond.

With two outs in the second, Mitch Canham singled to right-center and then stole second. Later in the frame, Whit Merrifield singled to third and Canham scored on a throwing error by Alex Buchholz to put the Naturals (8-8, 33-53) up 1-0.

The ‘Riders (7-9, 46-40) answered immediately. With one out, Buchholz and Odubel Herrera singled and Ryan Strausborger knocked an RBI double to tie the game at one.

Guilder Rodriguez singled to shallow center to lead off the third and advanced to second on a throwing error by Sugar Ray Marimon. Tomas Telis knocked a single to left to put Rodriguez on third, and later, Chih-Hsien Chiang slammed a sac fly to center, giving the RoughRiders a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth, Telis reached first on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on a throwing error by Orlando Calixte. Chiang knocked an RBI double and Alex Buchholz slammed a two-run home run over

the left wall, extending the ‘Riders lead 5-1.

Telis led off the seventh with a walk and reached second on a wild pitch by J.C. Sulbaran. Telis stole third and then reached home on a wild pitch, extending Frisco’s lead 6-1, which became the final score.

Pimentel (8-6) allowed one run on six hits in six innings to earn his first win since June 8th. Marimon pitched 4.2 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts to suffer the defeat.

The ‘Riders continue their series against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Sunday at 6:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Tyler Tufts (2-2, 3.54 ERA) makes the start for the ‘Riders, and will face Aaron Brooks (3-2, 5.22 ERA) for the Naturals.
