Giants Continue Domination At Cowboys Stadium

The New York Giants once again showed they rule at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.  The Giants scored first and last on the way to a 37-34 victory over the Dallas Cowboys to earn the NFC East Division lead.  New York is now 3-0 at the home of the Cowboys.

For the 2nd straight week, the game came down to a field goal which was made by Dan Bailey only to have the play blown dead by a timeout.  After the timeout, Bailey’s kick was blocked, sealing the victory for the Giants.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo played exceptionally, earning a quarterback rating of 141.3.  Romo completed 21 of 31 passes for 321 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Laurent Robinson again led the Cowboys receivers with 137 yards and a touchdown on 4 catches.  Miles Austin returned to the lineup and caught 4 for 63 yards and a touchdown.  Dez Bryant was limited to 1 catch, but it was a 50-yard touchdown.

Running back DeMarco Murray left the game with a season-ending ankle injury after gaining 25 yards on 5 carries.  Felix Jones picked up the load, gaining 106 yards on 16 carries.

The story of the game was the inability of the Cowboys defense to stop the Giants.  The Giants offense gained over 500 yards.  Eli Manning passed for 400 yards while running back Brandon Jacobs went over 100 yards on the ground.

The Giants were 6 of 14 on third-down conversions, with 4 of the 6 coming on 3rd and long (greater than 5 yards.)

Dallas had a 12-point lead with 5:41 remaining in the game when the defense gave up scoring drives of 80 and 58 yards.  It is the 3rd time this season the Cowboys had a 4th quarter lead of 12 or more points and lost the game, something that happened only twice in the previous 50-year history of the Cowboys.

The Cowboys had no pass rush and even less pass coverage.  Giants receivers were wide open throughout the game.  Even the few times the Cowboys could cover a receiver, they seemed not to be able to tackle.  The Rob Ryan experiment appears to be a failure.

Dallas will need to win all 3 of their remaining games to win the division and make the playoffs.  That will not be an easy task with the next one on Saturday after a short week. The Cowboys will be traveling to Tampa Bay, against the Buccaneers, who are hungry for a win after 7 straight losses.  Following that game, the Cowboys face Philadelphia and the Giants, both of which have beaten Dallas this season.
