Texas Rangers pitcher Justin Grimm earned his first Major League victory in his debut at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Grimm struck out 7 as the Rangers beat the Houston Astros 8-3 to guarantee the Silver Boot trophy will remain in Arlington for the 6th straight year.
Grimm was called up from the Frisco RoughRiders farm team to help with a pitching staff depleted with injuries. Grimm’s outing was one to remember as he became the first MLB pitcher since 2010 to have at least 7 strikeouts with no walks in his Major League debut. Grimm allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings.
The Rangers did most of their scoring in the bottom of the 6th inning as they sent 9 batters to the plate. Adrian Beltre hit a 2-run single, followed by a Nelson Cruz 3-run home run. Ian Kinsler had an RBI single in the 7th, and scored on a Michael Young sacrifice fly.
David Murphy hit a double in the 8th inning and then scored on a Mitch Moreland double.
The Rangers will go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon before starting a road trip on Monday. Colby Lewis will take the mound for the Rangers for the 2:05pm start.
