DALLAS – (Dec. 20, 2012) – Dallas-resident, energy entrepreneur and proud Oklahoma State University alumnus Boone Pickens generously donated $25,000 to the Heart of Dallas Bowl presented by PlainsCapital Bank. The donation will allow all City of Dallas employees and their families the opportunity to attend the game on New Year’s Day at the historic Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma State University and Purdue University are set to kickoff at 11 a.m.

The Heart of Dallas Bowl Game is unique in that net profits benefit charities serving the homeless population in Dallas. It also boasts the Heart of Dallas, a nonprofit organization, as the title sponsor. By staging “must-attend” sports and entertainment programming, Heart of Dallas hopes to raise community consciousness of compelling causes and to inspire Dallas millennials to become the next generation of influencers and philanthropists. The Heart of Dallas Bowl is the organization’s inaugural event.

“Whether it’s Mr. Pickens’ generous donations to the Downtown YMCA or his sponsorship of Dallas’ Meals on Wheels program, this gift is another great example of his generosity and

support for Dallas,” said Mayor Rawlings.

Pickens added, “I am thrilled to support the Heart of Dallas Bowl; and specifically, it’s efforts to help eradicate homelessness in our city. I hope everyone will come out to kick off the New Year at Cotton Bowl Stadium.”

“Heart of Dallas is a way for our city to showcase its sports and entertainment for the benefit of those in need right here in our community,” said Britton Banowsky, Heart of Dallas Founder and commissioner of Conference USA. “We are delighted to have the support of Boone Pickens—a proud Oklahoma State alumnus and Dallas philanthropist.”

Pickens is the founder and chairman of BP Capital, an energy-focused hedge fund. A noted philanthropist, he has contributed more than $1 billion to various charitable endeavors. He has championed “The Pickens Plan” to enhance U.S. energy security. Additionally, Pickens was the founder of Mesa Petroleum, which over four decades, became one of the largest independent exploration and production companies in the U.S.
