Helping Our Heroes Golf Tournament Successful

DALLAS – Helping Our Heroes Foundation (HOH) is proud to recognize sponsors and donors of its seventh annual Gala and Golf Tournament, which was held Saturday, September 9, 2017, and Monday, September 11, 2017, respectively. Photojournalist MSgt. Jeremy Lock, Retired served as the guest speaker of the Saturday night Gala, which also welcomed multiple wounded warriors who have all been featured in George W. Bush’s Portraits of Courage. MLB Hall of Famer Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez made a special appearance at the golf tournament on Monday along with Marty Turco of the Dallas Stars, ESPN’s Brady Tinker, and PGA Pro Joel Edwards who hosted a short game clinic before the event.

Helping Our Heroes’ 2017 beneficiaries include The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarship to military children, and Semper Fi Fund, which provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Both events were held at Las Colinas Country Club where guests gathered for dinner Saturday night to hear from co-chairs Michael Marasco and Travis Wilson, as well as local heroes. Guests also took part in a fabulous silent and live auction. An after party featured dancing and tunes by DJ Jennifer Miller.

On Monday, September 11, golfers and guests participated in a moment of silence to honor victims of the terrorist attacks, as well as first responders. Nicola Kouzes sang a beautiful rendition of our national anthem, and 2nd Battalion 14th Marines presented the flags.  Following the short ceremony, golfers teed off for a fun day on the course, followed by an awards celebration with cocktails, dinner and prizes.

“The Helping Our Heroes mission would not be upheld without the continuous support of sponsors and donors who graciously aid the organization year after year. Many of whom have partnered with Helping Our Heroes since its conception, and some are new to the cause.  However, all play a part in our growth as an organization, which allows us to provide financial support to our military members and their families, as well as first responders,” said co-chair Michael Marasco.
